DBT for Emotion Regulation and Life Stability

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals who experience intense emotions, difficulty in relationships, and patterns of feeling overwhelmed or emotionally reactive.

DBT focuses on building practical skills that support greater stability, emotional balance, and more effective ways of navigating life’s challenges.

In my work, I integrate DBT-informed strategies to help clients strengthen their ability to respond to emotions with greater awareness and intention rather than feeling controlled by them.

What DBT Can Help With

DBT may be helpful for individuals experiencing:

  • Intense or rapidly shifting emotions
  • Difficulty managing stress or distress
  • Relationship challenges or conflict patterns
  • Impulsivity or feeling “out of control” at times
  • Struggles with self-worth or identity stability
  • Patterns of feeling stuck in cycles that are hard to change
  • Difficulty maintaining present moment focus

How DBT Works in Therapy

DBT focuses on developing four core skill areas:

  • Mindfulness – becoming more aware of thoughts, emotions, and experiences in the present moment
  • Emotion Regulation – understanding and managing intense emotions more effectively
  • Distress Tolerance – learning skills to get through difficult moments without making things worse
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness – improving communication, boundaries, and relationship stability

In our work together, these skills are integrated into a collaborative, supportive therapeutic process tailored to your individual needs and pace.

My Approach

With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and using DBT, I bring a grounded, compassionate, and nonjudgmental approach to therapy. I understand that emotional intensity often comes from meaningful lived experience, not personal failure.

My goal is to help you build tools, insight, and self-understanding so that you can feel more stable, connected, and in control of your emotional life.
